An HTML Application (HTA) is a Windows program written in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Internally, HTAs use an Internet Explorer wrapper to display their contents as a webpage. They can be used for several purposes, including CD autoruns and simple programs. However, they are no longer be supported on the newest Windows operating systems due to the removal of Internet Explorer.
