CollabVM Discord

The CollabVM Discord (or CVMDSC for short) is the central place to talk about CollabVM and CollabVM accessories. It has had a long and turbulent history, but in its current state, it's public and can be joined through the link on the CollabVM homepage. It is considered a community server as it is registered as one, therefore it takes advantage of special features like actual designated channels (announcement and rule channels), and others.

After joining, you will need to get verified, which you can do so by clicking the button in #verification and following the instructions in your ticket. Keep in mind that you have to say your age and your CollabVM username (if applicable), or else you get kicked from the server.

History

It was first created by Novella in September of 2016, but was later transferred to Dartz and made official. Before it got transferred to Dartz (and a matter of fact, before Novella's server ever existed), there were plenty of alternate CollabVM Discord servers you could use. Some stayed up forever, some went inactive (most all of them did actually), and some are just completely gone.

In the near-end of December 2018, the CollabVM Discord server officially closed down, due to e-drama. You could only enter with a private invite during this time. The server remained fairly small at the time, being less than 100 members.

In mid December 2019, after the aforementioned e-drama cooled off and the coast was clear, the server got reopened, and was fairly active. But however, on September 24, 2020, after a very long and aggravating series of events, the server got unexpectedly terminated for hacking. CollabVM Discord 2 was created as a result, which went fully public, and people started joining it left and right. It was even available as a public invite link on the CollabVM site itself.

On October 31, 2020, a verification system was devised to keep people who don't comply with Rule 4 and other various undesirable entities out of the server. This verification system consisted of a single channel with no privacy. It was very easy to lose track of things, and it was prone to constant shitposting until in 2023, the old verification system was decommissioned and replaced with a new, better verification system based on a ticket bot.

Currently, there are almost over 800 members in the server.

Moderation

The Discord is moderated by a staff team which consists of the following people:

Admins:

Additionally, the following people have admin permissions but are rarely/never active:

Moderators:

Admins have access to the Admin Panel and the exclusive admin channels, while moderators can log into the VMs as mods and have access to the moderator channel. Since Dartz is never online and only comes on once every blue moon, all of the decisions and moderation are done in a very anarchy-like manner by general consensus. Essentially, if everyone hates you, you get b&. And oh, you will never be admin. Ever.

Channels

This is all of the (publicly available to verified users) channels in the CollabVM Discord server.

Landing

#announcements
ANNOUNCEMENT CHANNEL. For when an admin wants to ping everyone for no reason about something really important, that will get drowned out by incessant shitposting.
#rules
RULES CHANNEL. The imaginary and unenforced rules of the Discord. Has more than 4 rules!
#joins
If you want to see what type of people join the Discord, then check that channel out. You're not gonna like what you're gonna see in there.
#verification
Although that channel is only viewable to non-verified members, it contains a button to open a ticket and some verification instructions. It used to be viewable as a read-only channel during the old verification system.
#updates-of-the-hub-of-git
Where the internal Computernewb Gitea webhook lies. It currently tracks the CollabVM 3.0 repo, where all of the hard work and the development of the next generation of collaborative technology currently happens. Detailed commit messages describing important features can be seen there.
#dartboard
A channel dedicated to storing of pinned messages by the Starboard bot. There is also the Pinned Messages in all of the channels, which is always full, thus why this channel was made.
#support
FORUM CHANNEL. The main support forum channel for CollabVM related help, such as getting a UserVM up and running and added to the roster, compiling collab-vm-server without incident, configuring a CollabNet-style VM network/domain controller for use with your VMs, configuring Whitelister to work with your VM network, and more. You will almost never find anyone who actually gets their problem fixed or anything done.
Events
Events channel. Self-explanatory.

Chatrooms

#public
The public channel. Is widely regarded as a cesspool.
#vidya
The channel for all things video game related.
#development
The channel to discuss programming, and other topics related to programming. You can also show off your code here. Do note, that Batch, VBS and visual/no-code programming languages are banned from discussion, as they do not qualify as real languages, and the people that usually bring them up aren't exactly the brightest.

Storage

#cool-things
The channel for sending cool stuff you found. If you repeatedly send anything in this channel that is not considered cool by general consensus, you will get banned from the channel via the "cool-things Gagged" role.
#collabvm-txt
For posting the funniest moments of CollabVM.
#dartzs-inbox
Where you can view the often magical and bizarre emails that Dartz (and soon, other CollabVM staff) receives.
#copypasta-central
Post all your copypastas here.
#music
Post your music here.
#quotes
For posting funny CollabVM Discord (anywhere else also allowed too) quotes. Although some unfortunate souls post CollabVM quotes in this channel..
#spicy-memes
For just posting memes in general.
#vnc-resolver
Stare at the screen typing +vnc for 5 minutes, then get bored and leave.
#glorified-rss-feed
Through this channel, you can receive and take advantage of cool things like Steam and GOG game promotions, primarily from the Terraria Discord server #free-stuff channel.

Aids

#cosmic-sans-simulator
Update. People mostly use any variation of the cosmic_gh NotSoBot tag, some people just post "Update"
#suggestions
Send useful and indepth suggestions that genuinely help the site and the server, but have it completely ignored in return.
#nsfw-spam
The NSFW channel (also doubles as spam channel, and both). To get access to this channel, you will need to be 18 years old or higher, for obvious reasons.
#spam
Post your high quality spam material here.
#public-bots
The (public) bots channel. Waste hours there messing around with the server's premier bot "NotSoBot", making dumb and stupid tags that don't even work half the time, and people will forget about it by the end of the month, or you could even make sophisticated and advanced tags that heavily use JavaScript, and other more nuanced parts of the NotSoBot tag system, which people will also forget about by the end of the month. You can also take advantage of other bots in the server, including but not limited to Assyst, EsmBot, and CollabVM Boundary Fucker, which can do a variety of wonderful and interesting things.

#collabvm-advent-calendar-2021
The official annual CollabVM advent calendar for 2021 that would post a new operating system everyday up until the 24th of December.
#collabvm-advent-calendar-2022
The official annual CollabVM advent calendar for 2022 that would post a new Crusty Windows bootleg everyday up until the 24th of December.
#collabvm-advent-calendar-2023
The official annual CollabVM advent calendar for 2023 that would post a new Crusty Windows bootleg everyday up until the 24th of December. The reason it was repeated from the previous year was because there were now more bootlegs (and bootleg articles) to work with, because it started when the Crusty Windows Wiki was still young.
#verification-archive
The old verification channel, where people would send their age, and wait for an admin to verify. It had no privacy and was very chaotic, and was prone to mods and memebers constant shitposting, and children begging to be verified every 20 minutes, before it was shuttered and replaced with the new ticket-based verification system.
#support-archive
The old support channel, before it changed to a forum channel.

Voice Channels

#vc-text
The main voice text channel.
🔊 gayming
Voice channel, intended for streaming gameplay.
🔊 whatever
The main voice channel.
🔊 yellows bedroom
Formerly occupied by yellows111, but he has since left Discord in general due to a variety of reasons and has been now condemned by the CollabVM Federal Agency.
🔊 56k modem (20kbps)
A joke voice channel. It is set to the lowest possible bitrate allowed by Discord
🔊 384 KBPS (HOLY SHIT ITS DA FUTUAAAAAA)
Another joke voice channel, created as a response to when the server reached Level 3 boosts, which allowed server admins to have higher quality in voice channels
🔊 BEEP BOOP BOP BOOP
The voice channel for use with bots

Roles

Infraction Roles

There are exactly 3 infraction (warning) roles in total:

W1

W2

W3

After you have all of the infraction roles, you will end up getting a specific punishment. Usually, you'll get unverified or kicked, or banned if you've been really bad. You can sometimes get a second chance if you appeal, but depending on what you did, who you are, or the mood of the moderation team, it may not always work out well for you.

If you obtain W3, you lose your embed, reaction and external emote permissions. This does not happen for any other infraction role.

There exist infraction roles that can ban you from talking in certain channels, like these ones. The descriptions for these roles correspond to the channel it is supposed to hide from whoever has the role. In reality these don't work anymore and aren't given out.

cant fucking program
