This is the very very very first version of the lucrative "netconf" script set, made probably about a full 3 months before the first OPNsense based CollabNet v1. I don't have a good date estimate, but I'd assume these scripts were last touched some time in 2019, given how I remember the server using Ubuntu when this script set was written. To give you an idea how old this is, the "smw" abbreviation you can see in these scripts is, yes, an abbreviation for "Smoothwall", as I didn't know at the time how simply unmaintained and unbelievably terrible it was. This script kind of was a prototype to see if it was at all possible to build a virtual network for CollabVM that wasn't a hacky mess. Dartz had tried his hand at it once or twice with WHONIX and "-net socket", however WHONIX would link up to Tor (hint: a very bad idea to give CollabVM users) and -net socket was so unbearingly slow it wasn't worth using for anything. While these scripts didn't (and don't) work at all (I sat on VM1 trying to get it to work to seemingly no avail), something told me to try more and more. Eventually, with that spirit, CollabNet v1 was created, using "-net mcast", which was slightly faster, but still as hacky. Later, macvtaps were used which sort of worked, but wasn't great, as the host machine was still forwarding IP packets. Slightly later on, TAPs and bridges were sought after, finally configured properly, and eventually CollabNet v2 prevailed, with high WAN and LAN speeds, squid/ufdbguard and a hand rolled iptables router system. I think I did pretty well. (kind of a note on how I feel about leaving) I'm basically the Woz of CollabVM. I came in, as a friendly member, made infrastructure a lot better with what I knew, and then, when it no longer felt "fun", I "resigned". Not officially or fully, because I do sometimes help with stuff. However, for the time being, at least, unless I reconsider (and, to be negative at least for a second, a reconsideration at this point would likely end up in me cutting ties totally with CollabVM), I no longer am focusing directly on CollabVM. It wasn't fun being a "UN Peacekeeper" as I usually ended up equating myself anyways, and, in post-mortem, still do sometimes. I'd rather be myself, and spend time with my friends. Life's a whole lot more fun and expressive that way :) (End note I guess) I only keep these around for historical relevancy's sake. These scripts don't work at all, in the current (as-is) state they're in. Feel free to grab them, and keep them around, owning a piece of "CollabVM history" in the process. Or don't. I'm not your dad or whatever. By the way, for anyone wondering about legal stuff, I decree that these files, by being here, are in the public domain, and I'm rescinding any copyrights I may have had on them by putting this folder on the Internet. In English: They're public domain. I don't care what you do with them. - Lily, 2021-09-03
