It was first created by [[Vanilla|Novella]] in September of 2016, but was later transferred to [[Dartz]] and made official. Before it got transferred to Dartz, there were plenty of alternate CollabVM Discord servers you could use. Some stayed up forever, some went inactive (most all of them did actually), and some are just completely gone.
In the near-end of December 2018, the CollabVM Discord server officially closed down, due to e-drama. You could only enter with a private invite during this time. The server remained fairly small at the time, being less than 100 members.
In mid December 2019, after the aforementioned e-drama cooled off and the coast was clear, the server got reopened, and was fairly active. But however, on September
On October 31, 2020, a verification system was devised to keep people who don't comply with Rule 4 and other various undesirable entities out of the server. This verification system consisted of a single channel with no privacy. It was very easy to lose track of things, and it was prone to constant shitposting until in 2023, the old verification system was decommissioned and replaced with a new, better verification system based on a ticket bot.
