The CollabVM Discord (or CVMDSC for short) is the central place to talk about CollabVM and CollabVM accessories. It has had a long and turbulent history, but in its current state, it's public and can be joined through the link on the CollabVM homepage.

After joining, you will need to get verified, which you can do so by clicking the button in #verification and following the instructions in your ticket. Keep in mind that you have to say your age and your CollabVM username (if applicable), or else you get kicked from the server.

History

There were plenty of attempts at making CollabVM Discord servers before an official one was established. Some stayed up forever, the majority went inactive, and some are just completely gone. A server created by Novella in September of 2016 was transferred to Dartz and made into the first official CollabVM Discord.

In the near-end of December 2018, the first discord closed down, due to some e-drama at the time. You could only enter with a private invite during this time. The server remained fairly small at the time, being less than 100 members.

In mid December 2019, after the aforementioned e-drama cooled off and the coast was clear, the server was reopened, and was fairly active. However, on September 24, 2020, after one of the longest and most aggravating e-drama shitfests in CollabVM history, the server was terminated by discord for hacking. Dartz then created the "CollabVM Discord 2", which went fully public, and is the current official discord server.

On October 31, 2020, a verification system was instituted to keep people who don't comply with Rule 4 and other various undesirable entities out of the server. This verification system consisted of a single channel with no privacy. This made it very easy for the staff to lose track of things, and people would only get verified once in a blue moon. It was also prone to constant shitposting, burying people who would potentially be of value to the server. This would persist until 2023, when the old verification system was decommissioned and replaced with a new, better verification system based on Ticket Tool, Double Counter and Gaius Cicereius.

Currently, there are over 900 members in the server.

Moderation

The Discord is moderated by a staff team which consists of the following people:

Admins:

Additionally, the following people have admin permissions but are rarely/never active:

CollabVM Moderators:

Discord Moderators:

Admins have access to the exclusive admin channels. Since Dartz is never online and only comes on once every blue moon, all of the decisions and moderation are done in a very anarchy-like manner by general consensus. Essentially, if everyone hates you, you get banned.

CollabVM moderators have access to the moderator channel and can ban/kick users from the VMs. Discord moderators, as the name implies, only have permissions in the Discord server and do not have ranks on the CollabVM website.

Rules

  1. Don't violate the Discord TOS.
  2. No slurs, Discord doesn't like those.
  3. Don't be stupid. Use common sense.
  4. Nobody under 13 is allowed here.
  5. there is no #5
    • Rule 5 was originally made when the old verification system was first established. However, on April 5th, 2023, when it was decommissioned, the original message was deleted and CHOCOLATEMAN posted that.
  6. Blocking multiple (2-3) staff members from this point onwards will result in first verification reset and then a kick
  7. Do not post crashing videos, if you do, you will be promptly kicked, if not instantly banned so please refrain from doing that stuff, thanks
    1. Please attempt to refrain from posting imagery or videos with flashing lights/loud sounds without spoiling/warning
  8. Starting nerd wars or unnecessary drama with other communities will get you unverified or kicked
  9. Please refrain from starting drama, over-the-top arguing, or just general toxicity when you have a dispute with another member. You can always talk it out or just ignore them
  10. We have absolutely no tolerance for doxxing, harassment, and bigotry. Respect everyone regardless of their identity. With that being said, anyone involved in communities that endorse or commit acts of hate and/or harassment are not welcome here.
  11. with all Computernewb services, we are a stern and corrupt dictatorship, and administration does not need to possess a reason mentioned here or anywhere else to ban you from the usage of our services; we don't need to mention every loophole here to prevent you from being an asshole, you are subject to any punishment regardless of if we feel the need to mention it here
    • Humorous way of saying staff have final discretion in all matters

Roles

Infraction Roles

There are exactly 3 infraction (warning) roles in total:

W1

W2

W3

After you have all of the infraction roles, you will end up getting a specific punishment. Usually, you'll get unverified or kicked, or banned if you've been really bad. You can sometimes get a second chance if you appeal, but depending on what you did, who you are, or the mood of the moderation team, it may not always work out well for you.

If you obtain W3, you lose your embed, reaction and external emote permissions. This does not happen for any other infraction role.

There exist infraction roles that can ban you from talking in certain channels, like these ones. The descriptions for these roles correspond to the channel it is supposed to hide from whoever has the role. In reality these don't work anymore and aren't given out.
